How to Backup Data on Laptop Computers

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Simply put nothing is fool proof when it comes to computer data. From hard drive crashes to virus attacks computer data needs to be protected at all times. On top of the usual data loss hazards that come with Personal Computers, laptops are more at risk due their vulnerability to theft.

If you were to look at the statistics regarding the information that has been lost in regards to laptop computers, you would be amazed. It is a fact that over a million laptops have been stolen over the years in the United States alone. Chances are when a laptop is stolen it will never be recovered. If the data was not backed up, then the owner is not only left without a laptop but without any of the files that were stored on it.

Even with this astounding information, many people still do not take the time to backup the data information on their laptops. Same as with desktop computers, you can create a data backup for your laptops as well. Preserving your data is something you should really look into, whether you have business or personal data, losing that information can be devastating.

Since laptop computers are mobile and primarily for on the go use, many do not really think about backing up their data. Usually this important task is overlooked until it is too late.

Two Methods to Backup Data on Your Laptop

1. One of the simplest ways to back up your data is to burn it to a data CD. A data CD can hold up to 700 MB (Mega Bytes) of data, which means a lot of files. To use this method you need a CD/RW burner in your laptop, which most of the newer ones come with.

Since many laptops do not offer as much storage or security measures as a desktop PC. Another benefit of data backup and burning your archives onto CD is that it frees up lots of storage space on your laptops.

2. Online Data Backup Service

A method of saving data that is becoming more and more popular these days is using an online data backup service. Depending on your Internet connection, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.

Online data backup is a great option to saving your files. Many such services are very affordable and easy to use. Often they provide user friendly options such as reminders and auto settings so that data is backed up automatically and you do not need to worry about remembering to do it. Some of these companies even offer limited storage space for free for personal users.

Data backup is something that should be taken seriously. Whether you are using your laptop for business or personal use consider what would it cost you to lose it?

The Notebook - Why Should You Buy One At All?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

A notebook computer, also called a laptop, is a smaller mobile computer. The term laptop was coined back in the 80`s, because they were so small that they could sit on your lap.

All notebook computers open like a book to reveal a 12“ to 20“ screen and a keyboard at the base with a touchpad. This touchpad is also known as a track pad which acts as a mouse. A notebook computer`s hardware is physically smaller in size and usually less powerful than a desktop. Most notebooks can do everything a desktop can these days, right from playing CD`s, games, music, run office applications to surfing the web.

With most notebooks having several built-in USB ports, any peripheral can be connected to a laptop including printers, mp3 players, and external hard drives. Notebooks give the user the flexibility to work wherever they want, whether at home, at the beach or in an airplane. Wireless connectivity to the internet is one of the best features of notebook computers.

Even before desktops went wireless, people used their wireless connections with their laptop to surf the web anywhere they wanted. Notebooks opened up an altogether new world with their mobile technology. Businessmen could fly across the country and keep their files with them and access them from their personal notebooks whenever required. The notebook also found its use in the campuses around the world for students to take down notes, look up for resources and research topics online.

Notebook computers range in price from around $500 to $3000 depending on the power of the CPU, the amount of memory one needs, the audio and video features selected as well as the peripherals chosen. Another important determinant for the price of a notebook is its weight. Because the primary use of a notebook is its mobile computing, a light weight unit is important to many people. Notebooks range from 3 to 7 lbs in weight and one has to pay more for a lighter computer.

When you own a laptop, you are almost certainly going to need a notebook computer accessory. There are all sorts of notebook peripherals that help make portable computing easier and more convenient. If you are looking for a cheap notebook computer, there are a few issues you need to be aware of so that you do not skimp on quality.

Computers have become so commonplace in our lives that we sometimes forget that they are intricate pieces of technology that demand care. And notebook computers are no exception. You may also wish to own a used notebook computer or a refurbished notebook computer that has been cleaned, fixed, upgraded and is ready for reuse.

Refurbished notebooks are popular because they are a less expensive way of owning a notebook. The first commercially available laptop notebook computer was in 1981. It was heavy and slow. But it was also the first step in computer technology. Then in 1995, Microsoft launched Windows 95 which enabled laptop computers to contain a universal processor, the Intel Pentium. Since that time there have been some noteworthy innovations that propelled the notebook to reach millions of homes and offices worldwide.

The best budget notebook is what every consumer wants when looking for a nice portable computer. Notebook computers are perhaps the best type of computers that a person can buy and is the ultimate in portability. Notebooks are a favorite in computing. Because just as the cell phone has almost replaced the home phone, the notebook computer can do everything a desktop can.

So many people like to have a notebook exclusively, only because it gives them the flexibility to use it in bed at night, at their desk at work, or in a meeting halfway across the globe!

Master Resell Rights - 5 Key Factors

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
by David Koflinger

Did you know that selling products with master resale rights is a fantastic way to earn an online income? It lets you sell hot selling items, without knowing how to create webpages or products, and yet make a substantial income.

Let me first clarify what master resell rights are. It just means you can pass on resell rights to your customers. If you get transferable master resell rights, then you can pass on the master resell rights to your customer. In either case, a product’s value is much higher when you let others sell it, so you can sell it with rights for a much higher price (and profits).

A killer product with master resell rights really depends on the market you are in. Ideally, you want an easy to sell product in high demand. If it’s an e-book, then selling it and handling orders may be a simple matter, but if you sell a script that requires updates and patches, then customer support may become quite an ordeal.

For most people, a hot selling master resell rights is one that is easy to maintain, easy to sell, and easy to promote. If you can sell it and make good profits, then you have yourself a winner. The product should not be too old, or too widely marketed online already.

Do you know what the best price is to sell a master resell rights package? It really depends on the remaining four things discussed below. For example, the potential benefit the product offers may greatly impact the price. You can imagine something that turns back the aging clock, or packs a million dollars into your bank account, and how these might be priced differently than a 3 page guide showing you how to synch two ipods on a single computer.

You really want to offer products with master resale rights that fit whatever niche you are targeting. If you buy a lot of unrelated products and try to sell them, you’ll find it a lot harder, since people will not understand what you are up to.

High quality exclusive information or products that is new on the market will fetch a higher price than things that are developed without quality control and that have been sold for a long time.

Sometimes vendors will restrict you to a certain price range for their products, or limit how you bundle their products, and this can handicap your ability to differentiate yourself online, and limit the profits you can make.

Getting products with no limits or minimums can be dangerous as well, since some marketers will offer it without making a profit, and that greatly devalues the products so that no one sells much.

Another key benefit is a product that comes with help on how to sell it. If they show you how to market the product and get targeted traffic, it will be a lot easier to succeed than just getting an e-book or software script. Sales pages, graphics, and other extras can make a big difference in the profits you can make.

Being able to take massive action quickly is another key success factor. If you can get a product up online, start selling it, and start marketing it effectively in little time, then you get a huge first mover advantage that can position you as the leader and authority.

When you buy a product with master resale rights, you also get the extras - the supporting files, download pages, installation instructions, and so on, to make sales and help others make sales with the product.

Finally, if you can bundle your product with a related bonus offer, you can greatly improve your ability to sell online. People love free things, and a high value bonus that comes with a purchase is a sure fire way to get people to buy from you.

The Easy Way To Make Sure You Are Using The Best Anti-Spyware

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
by Jack Mason

If you have a computer that is connected to the internet, it’s essential that you use some type of anti-spyware program to protect your computer. One of the most common questions we receive is from people that are wondering what to look for when choosing the best spyware remover. With this in mind, we thought we would point out a few things to look for when searching for an anti-spyware program.

Why protect your computer from spyware? Because nowadays you just can’t risk not to. Not only can spyware drastically slow down your computer’s performance, but it can also put your personal information at risk of being stolen.

Since there are so many different spyware removers available, we thought we would list a few key features you should always look for:

1) A comprehensive program that can search for, detect and then destroy all forms of spyware and adware

The term “spyware” consists of a lot of different types of infections. You have to look out for keyloggers, robots, browser hijackers, worms, dialers - There’s far too many to list here!

Obviously it isn’t your job to know exactly what all of these infections are, but it is the job of your anti-spyware program! You better be sure your spyware remover is aware of all the different infections that are out there.

Look for a program that seeks and destroys all of these malicious programs and is able to clear them from your system.

2) Automatic Updates

Unfortunately, new kinds of spyware make their way onto the internet every single day. The only way you can be safe from these new threats is if your spyware remover “updates” itself so it knows how to find these new types of spyware.

You need to find a program that features “automatic updates” - this means that it always keeps up with the latest spyware definitions and knows exactly which infections it needs to protect your computer from.

3) Automatic system scans

I have something to admit - I forget a lot of things! And sometimes I’m just plain lazy.

You want an anti-spyware program that automatically scans your computer for infections on a pre-determined schedule (I have it scan my system once a week). This let’s you have the piece of mind that your computer is safe even if you forget to hit that “scan now” button.

4) Solid customer support

Realistically you aren’t going to need to ask for a lot of technical support with an anti-spyware program. Once it’s installed on your computer it’s pretty much smooth sailing from there. However I like to know that I can get support if I were ever to need it.

I want to see that the company that makes the software stands behind the product and cares enough about their customers to offer prompt, efficient customer service. It’s a little touch that shows their commitment to delivering a quality product.

What kinds of support do I expect? For this type of product I certainly don’t need telephone support, but I do want to see that I have the option to get help by email when I need it.

You can use the link at the bottom of this article to read reviews on the top-ranked spyware removers out there. The reviewers looked closely at the support that each product offers. It might not neccessarilly be something you use, but it says a lot about the company behind the program.

When you go hunting for an anti-spyware program, look for these four features so that you know you are using the most effective spyware protection available. You absolutely must defend your system from spyware these days - following these steps lets you surf the net without any worries. Good luck!

The Microsoft Word 2007 Ribbon

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
by Andrew Whiteman

The Ribbon is a key element of the Microsoft Word interface. It hosts the vast majority of the commands that the programme has to offer. Its wide variety of controls are arranged in a series of Tabs. To make a Tab active, click on its name. The controls displayed in each Tab are related in some way. Thus, for example, the controls in the Home Tab are the ones which are most frequently used in Microsoft Word: controls such as Cut, Copy and Paste and commands for changing the character and paragraph formatting of your text.

The Insert Tab contains commands for adding elements to your page such as tables, pictures, headers and footers.

Another example of a context sensitive Tab is the one which appears whenever you insert a table. You will notice that Word immediately displays two context sensitive Tabs relating to tables: Design and Layout.

As long as an area within the table is highlighted, these Tabs will remain visible and they have the same status as the regular Tabs. You can switch between them and regular Tabs at will. Once again, as soon as you click outside the table to deselect it, the context sensitive Tabs relating to tables will disappear.

The Page Layout Tab contains commands relating to the formatting of the page as a whole, such as the orientation and the margins.

The Review Tab contains tools for proofing your document. Here, you can check your spelling and grammar and there are also tools for reviewing a document by adding comments and then tracking these comments as the document is passed from person to person.

The Review Tab contains tools for proofing your document. Here, you can check your spelling and grammar and there are also tools for reviewing a document by adding comments and then tracking these comments as the document is passed from person to person.

The View Tab contains controls for displaying the document in various ways. There are also controls for zooming in and out.

As well as the regular Ribbon Tabs, Microsoft Word 2007 also contains context sensitive Tabs. These are Tabs which only appear in a certain context.

The Mailings Tab contains controls for creating mail merge documents. This involves the combination of a data document, which normally contain a list of recipients, with a main document, which is normally a letter, to produce a series of personalised mail merge documents which can then be sent out to each recipient.

As long as an area within the table is highlighted, these Tabs will remain visible and they have the same status as the regular Tabs. You can switch between them and regular Tabs at will. Once again, as soon as you click outside the table to deselect it, the context sensitive Tabs relating to tables will disappear.

Are You Still Using a Dirty, Unorganized Computer?

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
by Chuck the Computer Geek

Here it is; the computer that you have always wanted. The manual tells you very little about why or how to use many of the programs on it. You know you are supposed to clean the hard drive but you are not quite sure how to do that. What is antispyware? Well I can answer many of those questions for you and a few more.

You should have a firewall, antivirus software, and a disk cleaner on your computer. When you save files to your computer you should have a folder that they will go into such as, pictures, music, documents and so on. Clean off all the icons from your desktop that you do not often use, as you can find them in the start menu or under programs. Take off any programs from the start up menu as it can slow down the start up process.

Know how to run the disk cleaner and the disk defragmenter. Theses should be done weekly, more for the disk cleaner if you store and accept a lot of files or programs. If you let these files build up, this can slow down your computer and even cause problems.

When you download and run a program, many files are left in temporary folders and other folders that you know longer need. Every website you visit leaves a file on your computer so you need to clean out the cookies and cache files. There are some good programs out there that will do this for you with just a few clicks. You can find them free or at a small cost. Make sure to keep all of your software up to date.

A registry cleaner can keep your registry clean by removing old file strings, which will keep your computer running better. Keep an anti spyware program on to help you to avoid and clean any spyware from your computer that comes along with some programs like free ones.

Remove programs that you do not use. Program files are often large and will take up space and can slow down your computer. If you think you might have a use for it later you should have a backup disk for it. It is just best to remove whatever you do not use.

Make sure to use the uninstall program on your computer do not just delete the folder. If you are unsure of what a program is, leave it alone until you find out, as you do not want to remove a program that your computer uses. If you follow these suggestions it should help you keep your computer in good working order.

Digital Workspace - For Today, Tomorrow and Forever

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

With rapid advancements in the internet technology, its true benefits are now being harnessed. The Digital Workspace concept is one such benefit which can surely help the businesses and individuals indulged in different fields in achieving high efficiency rates. The innovation that has taken place in Digital Workspace segment is an unparallel one.

It can easily surpass all the advancements in technology that had taken place few decades earlier. The entry of personal computers in the day-to-day businesses has increased the productivity to a newer level. These days, millions of computers can be interconnected through internet and thereby creating a virtual digital workspace environment. This is widely being acknowledged as the next big thing in the technology arena for at least next few decades to come.

The concept of Digital Workspace took its shape in 1999 in France. The idea was to bring in all the school establishments into the network and introduce certain services that will aid in communication and collaboration. In a broader sense, Digital Workspaces seem to be both an electronic schoolbag and a virtual office.

Businesses which have made a leap into a bigger league can ill afford to have teams based on geographical locations. The need to have an environment that can enable the teams to work together irrespective of the location has been felt. With the advent of Digital Workspace, the concept of remote working has finally turned into a reality. Team members need not be in physical proximity to conduct businesses. The corporations which embraced these advancements have tasted success and have remained one step ahead of their competitors in the market.

Contextual file-sharing is one of the newer trends in Digital Workspace. The need to have a file-sharing mechanism in place has been felt by various teams. This will help them to organize information on a project by project basis. The practical applications of contextual file-sharing are many. Documentation, Discussion, Bid Development and Research Gathering are few such applications. This concept will allow an individual to become a member of another team concurrently.

Few innovative entrepreneurs who embraced Web 2.0 technologies are reaping rewards these days. This is because they are well equipped with new tools that are redefining the Digital Workspace. Creating new Digital Workspaces had never been easier before. Thanks to Web 2.0 technologies, sharing and uploading various files and corresponding in context of projects have been a lot easier these days. They are not just efficient but also respect privacy and are secure to operate in. What’s more, they are easy to understand and are free to use. Some of the features that can be expected are as follows:

a) Private file-sharing: - Search engines cannot discover the files that are being shared.

b) Systematic file-sharing: - The file sharing process is streamlined and is easier than before to upload and share.

c) Privacy: - Passwords can be created to secure your files from any unauthorized assessment.

d) Communication: - Various modes of communication like voicemail, faxing and conference calling are possible.

How to Optimize Your Wireless Network Channel

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

When you use a wireless network at home, range and performance can be influenced by a lot of factors. The location of your wireless router as well as the location of your PC and/or laptop can make a lot of difference. Concrete walls also have a strong influence on Wi-Fi signals, so too many concrete walls in between the communication devices will reduce the signal strength, and as a result, the performance.

But range and obstacles are not the only possible problems with wireless networks. What about your neighbors? If they are using a wireless network, chances are, you are both using the same frequency, which would cause interference and again loss of signal quality. Since wireless internet access is so common these days, it’s better to check that too.

Here’s How You Can Improve Your Wi-Fi Network!

Depending on the location of your equipment, you can try to change the direction of your antennas. If your router has a built-in antenna, consider hanging it on a wall instead of placing it horizontally on a cabinet to change antenna direction. Most routers will come with instructions on best positioning for maximum range.

If you want to further optimize the range and performance of your wireless network, you might need to change the frequency of your WiFi communication.

There is a dedicated bandwidth for WiFi networks, in which multiple channels are defined. The problem is that many vendors configure their hardware to use a default channel. Typically this is channel 6, since it is the middle of the range (1 to 11 in the US, up to 13 for Europe).

To find out if you need to change your wireless network frequency, you need to know what channel you are using and if the other channels are better. There are many tools available for this, and one of them is called NetStumbler. The current version is 0.4.

The program can be installed with the default options. Once you start the application, it will automatically start a scan of the wireless networks in your surroundings.

In the results pane, you can see all detected networks grouped by MAC address, SSID or channel. The colored icon in front of the MAC address indicates the signal strength. Using these details, you can first check how many networks are using the same channel as you are.

You will need to know your SSID of course (either printed at the bottom of your wireless router, if it came from your ISP, or check the network settings on your computer’s wireless card).

Ideally, there should not be (too) many wireless networks on the same channel, but if there are, you want to make sure they have low signal strength.

If there are too many wireless networks on the same channel, try changing the channel to improve your wireless network range and performance. This needs to be done in the wireless router or access point.

The hardware will come with instructions on how to change the WiFi channel. Your laptop or PC’s wireless card will automatically switch to the new channel.

If you are using a laptop, you can also use the program to see where your signal strength is best. Move around with the laptop and see which location in your house has the best signal strength.

You can use the colored icon as well as the ’signal’ columns to assess the network quality. Make sure the network scanning is active to ensure the values are updated while you move around.

Using these Wi-Fi tips, you can easily improve your wireless internet access speed, or solve problems with your wireless internet connection.

Good luck!

An In Depth Explanation Of Operating Systems

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

You may have heard of UNIX, Windows and Mac OS, but what is an operating system and what does it do? The operating system is like the backbone of the computer. An operating system is the primary software that organizes and controls all the hardware, functions, operations and software programs of a computer.

The kind of operating system a computer uses is dependent on what kind of computer it is and what it is going to be used for. Most computers come pre-loaded with the operating system when you purchase them.

Personal computers usually come pre-loaded with Windows, Apple computers usually are pre-loaded with the Macintosh operating system and servers use such operating systems as Linux and UNIX however there are hundreds of operating systems available if you have specific needs for them. Operating systems are in all kinds of products that we use, not just computers. Operating systems are used by video game consoles, cell phones, PDAs and more.

The operating system has control over all the functions of the computer and manages how software programs work and their communication and interactions with each other. The operating system is responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly during the operation of your computer and that the programs that are running do not interfere with each other.

It is also responsible for effectively managing the usage of the various hardware components in your computer such as memory and storage. This keeps the individual software programs you have on the computer from needing to manage the details. Every aspect of you computer is managed by the operating system including your keyboard, your motherboard, your hard drive and your monitor.

The operating system works by recognizing input from the devices or software connected or installed. It then sends this information to the necessary recipient such as the hard drive or the monitor. From there the information is processed into output. For example when you move your mouse, the operating system detects the input from the ball inside of it, that information is sent to the monitor and the mouse pointer moves around he screen.

The operating system also plays a vital role in security. It prevents unauthorized users, programs and websites from accessing the computer system. This could be over a network, over the internet, or on the computer itself. Some operating systems allow you to set up more than one user and require a logon to that user account. This allows you to set different levels of permissions for each user and can help secure your data.

Hosted Software and Their Benefits

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

A research carried out by a UK based broadband supplier, showed nearly two thirds of small businesses (those employing 1-10 people) do not use the internet at all. Most of them had no company website in place. Even those companies that have an internet connection use a very low speed dial up network. This scenario indicates that the possibility of growth in IT and internet penetration is huge.

When 61% of households have internet penetration, why is it very rarely used in the business applications? Answers for the same can be found in the complexity of businesses and greater bandwidth. Also, most of the business owners operating at lower levels hardly have enough knowledge on the internet, computers and so on. So, under what environment does hosted software operate? To understand this question we need to know the meaning of it. For smaller companies, IT systems may mean a computer and little software installed in them. However, in larger companies it may include servers; to which many computers and other programs are interconnected.

Contrary, a hosted system incorporates a number of software supplied by the company and which are accessible by many via internet connection. The initial cost of using this software is relatively cheaper. There are many benefits of using hosted systems. Some of them are:

1) Cost is very low

2) Most of the hosted system suppliers are well equipped with multiple servers planted at multiple locations. Hence, they offer better availability

3) They provide back up facilities to all your data automatically.

4) There is no need to invest in buying other software or programs

5) They are active and gets updated regularly

6) Their services are far reliable as compared to traditional systems

7) They are readily available as they are internet based. They can be accessed form any part of the world at any time.

Typical office software like Word Processors and Spreadsheets can be downloaded from Google; which has committed itself into hosted software market. CRM systems are also available for businesses intending to develop customer base and prospects in the medium term. Intranets, which were previously used by larger companies, are now being used by smaller companies too. Other applications of hosted programs include websites and in particular e-commerce websites. Hosted systems are a lot cheaper and are readily accessible.

Some examples of hosted solutions include iPages, Intranet Works and so on. The former solution provides not only shop and shopping basket but also back office to help the businesses grown big in the ever changing world of internet shopping. The latter solution helps smaller and bigger companies with intranet services options.

Conducting an online shopping business is not an easy task. A lot of cost has to be incurred in maintaining warehouses, designing a website and for staffing purposes. Not everybody can master this trade. An effective ecommerce website can incorporate all the necessary features to make it click. The process kick starts with the customer entering the details online. Thereafter, stock is checked via back office and is picked for shipment. There’s no doubt that hosted software is here to stay. Both companies; bigger and smaller ones can make use of them effectively to their advantage.

Software Project Failure Warnings

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

All of us know that software can cause errors just like humans do. Errors can occur due to various reasons. Software projects can be considered as a failure if it crosses the budget allocated for it or in its inability in fulfilling the functionalities for which it was designed.

An initial step in developing a software project is to set aside a scope and an outline for the tasks to be carried out. The actual test of the software capabilities starts after these initial steps. Irrespective of the size of the software project, the initial warnings of its failure can be well judged. The symptoms can be loud and clear if the projects are small. However, larger projects often require great introspection for any failure detection. In a broader way, few signs of failures can be felt common across all software projects. Some of them are given below.

1) Working in concurrency

A rule in Software Project Management says that, no two works should be carried concurrently in the initial phases of a software development. Software coders and Business Analysts play their roles during these stages. Their works have to be separated and performed as different entities. Coding must always succeed requirement gathering stage and not vice versa. Often, it is found among many teams that coding starts even while analysts are busy gathering the requirements from the work givers. This happens with a notion that changes can be made to the developed codes, as and when the requirements are changed. This is actually a first step for failure among many software projects.

2) Size and technology to be used

A correct procedure to follow is to hire the project workers once the requirement gathering has been completed and validated. This ensures that the right numbers of people are working in the team. A large team size not only increases the budget but also can create unnecessary confusion. Another aspect to be considered is the type of technology to be used in the application. For this, the actual budget allocated for the project has to be borne in mind and an appropriate decision has to be taken. If the size of the team and technology used are inappropriate, you can be rest assured in software not clicking.

3) Piling up of requirements

It is necessary that all the documents gathered be simple, short and covering all the requirements of the client. If more than the required docs are gathered, it will not just be cumbersome in handling them but also there will be a possibility of the coder missing few details. Collecting over requirements can thus prove as a warning for an early failure of software.

4) Ignorance

Encountering bugs and other related failures is nothing new in the software development process. If they are ignored or are taken lightly, the issue can get complicated and difficult to handle.

5) Outsourcing

In most projects, there will certain tasks that can be worked upon remotely. These tasks could either be complicated or time consuming. In any case, outsourcing the work or a part of it can be considered as a warning of failure of the software in the later stages.

6) Participation blues

At any stage of software project development, if senior management or participants avoid attending meetings or block communication channels, then the chances of collapse of project is very high. This is often considered as most dangerous warnings of all.

The Need to Own Construction Software

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

The reality sector is booming in almost every nook and corner of the globe. With it, construction companies have had a busier time dealing with it. Traditionally, most construction companies believed in the age old methods of going about their businesses. Those days are now slowly becoming a chapter in the history. Competition is becoming intense with every passing day. The need for the construction companies to stay one step ahead of their competitors has now been felt.

These days, construction software tools are available at our disposal. They can be a great asset if used properly. It is very important for the construction companies to remain alert in ever changing market conditions. They have to ensure they remain loyal to their customers and make an above average profit each time. The usage of proper automation software will indeed help these companies and particularly the smaller ones in bracing up to the challenging times ahead. Even struggling companies can hope to come out of blues and start making profits at a shorter notice.

A recent survey conducted by an independent body indicated that most construction companies were only keen to work in a traditional way and thus staying away from the modern software. But for the rest of the companies in the pack, it has been a time for catching up with the cutting edge of technology and embracing them to the fullest. If you are one of the owners of a construction company, ensure you hire only those workers who are aware of basic technological aspects like email, word processing and may be even using construction software.

Failing to use the software in an effective way in your businesses can easily make or break your company. The survey conducted by the body indicated more number of contractors and sub contractors using the emails for corresponding with their colleagues in the market. Virtually all of them felt that the usage of construction software gave them far accurate quotes. Compared to other sectors like retail, construction industry lags behind in the usage of software in their daily work. In a retail company, the respective software is used for ordering, producing, shipping and other works without using a single paper.

No doubt, construction companies still require invoices and signatures to be made, approvals to be passed, sketches to be modified and so on. All these can not only be strenuous but also very time consuming indeed. Usage of proper construction software can eliminate all these exercises and can allow the users to implement them in a proper and in an effective way.

Most of the construction companies these days are employing some kind of scheduling software. If you are one of them, try upgrading them to a more sophisticated and cutting edge software. If required, buy a new one which incorporates all the new features required by you. These attempts will enable the customers to realize the effort you are placing in offering a quality service to them and to stay ahead of your competitors.

Using effective construction software can help the companies in saving a lot of cash. As such companies do spend considerable amount of funds in their daily activities. Implementing software could mean less paper usage, less phone calls and faxes, daily job reports and so on. In an age where technology is fast changing, accepting one for one’s benefit has been a reality. Companies accepting this fact go on to become quite successful in their venture while others do the catching up work.

How to Maximize Security in Outlook Express

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Although Outlook Express was known to be rather vulnerable to online attacks, viruses and spyware, recent updates have improved Outlook Express security a lot. Considering that many use Outlook Express for e-mail and news reading, it is reassuring that Microsoft has addressed most known security holes.

As with most software though, security can be harmed when users get sloppy in how they use the software and how they configure the software. This is especially true with online applications.

If you allow all kinds of content in e-mail or click every attachment you receive, no protection will be good enough.

So use good judgment when using Outlook Express to minimize your exposure to online threats. For MAXIMUM Outlook Express security consider the following tips too.

Keep Windows and Outlook Express Updates in Mind

Regularly update your Windows XP software. Outlook Express is an integrated part of Windows XP, so any patches or updates to Outlook Express are released through Windows XP updates.

If you have Windows updates set to automatic, Outlook Express will be updated as well. If you set Windows updates to ‘disabled’, then you need to manually update Windows XP.

Minimize HTML Usage in Outlook Express Email

Read messages in plain text. Although HTML allows for better looking e-mails, it also increases security risks in Outlook Express. Unless you only receive e-mails from known and trusted sources, using plain text is the safest option.

In the Tools menu, select Options. In the Options dialog box, select the Read tab, and then select the Read all messages in plain text checkbox. Click Apply to activate the setting.

If a message really needs to be viewed in HTML, you can select the message and then choose Message in HTML from the View menu.

In the same dialog box, consider clearing the checkbox named Automatically download message when viewing in the Preview Pane. When you scroll through your message list with the Preview Pane active, the messages are loaded immediately. Any harmful content in the message is also loaded.

As such, it is better to disable this feature, or to disable the Preview Pane completely, and only open messages that you know are from trusted sources.

Restrict Image Downloading in Outlook Express

HTML content can contain harmful content. In most cases, HTML will be used to show a nice looking message, using layout options and images.

But even image files have been misused in the past, where an image file is not really an image file. Unfortunately, even file formats can be misused.

And what about an ActiveX control embedded in the HTML? How can you know if it is a harmful or safe piece of code?

In the Options dialog box of Outlook Express, select the Security tab. Now select the checkbox named Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Apart from security improvement, this setting will also make your e-mail reading and downloading a bit faster since the images are not loaded.

Block Unsafe Attachments in Outlook Express

Attachments to e-mails are a convenient way to send files or documents to other people. But when someone sends you an executable (EXE) file, how do you know it does not contain a virus?

The best protection from possibly unsafe e-mail attachments is to allow Outlook Express to block them.

In the Options dialog box, select the Security tab. Next, select the checkbox named Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.

Click Apply to activate the setting. Outlook Express will now allow you to open the e-mail, but the attachment is not accessible anymore.

The blocking of potentially unsafe attachments is based on the file extension of the attachment, so you can actually control which attachments are blocked as a result of this setting.

Use Internet Security Zones in Outlook Express

Both Outlook Express and Internet Explorer are using the same Internet settings in Windows XP. As a result, the security zones concept is also available in Outlook Express.

Using the Restricted sites zone rather than the Internet zone will prevent unsafe features of a website to be loaded or executed.

You can use the Internet Options dialog box in the Internet Explorer to change the settings. In the Security tab, select the Restricted sites icon.

The Sites button allows you to add websites to this zone and the Custom level button gives you more control over what is allowed and what is not (most is not by default).

Block Spam in Outlook Express

Although Outlook Express does not have a Junk E-Mail filter like Outlook has, it is still possible to block spam as much as possible. This kind of e-mail is most likely to have harmful content, so filtering it is the first step in dealing with spam protection in Outlook Express.

Most ISP’s have spam filtering in their systems these days, but there is only so much that can be safely filtered without blocking e-mail that should normally be received. So if you still receive a lot of spam, you can use the message rules in outlook express to filter spam.

Following these steps can help you access your e-mail in a safe and secure way. Keep in mind that software can only do so much. Always use common sense, and do not open every e-mail blindly to prevent infecting your PC!

Software To Benefit The Whole World

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Custom software is an on-going development. As new research is developed, more opportunities for customising it come to the fore and more companies are able to benefit. The idea of custom software is to make business that much easier and quicker, thus cutting back on wasted staff hours, even with the possibility of scaling down work force.

Any method that helps to keep a company going through the current credit crisis will help and while nobody wants to see jobs lost, we also don’t want to see companies disappearing leaving only the big players to charge exactly what they want for products and services.

Custom software can be tailored to a particular industry, the way it works, the staff it employs and can be used for many different purposes from salary to personnel issues, from sales to stock control.

Of course, Microsoft are the biggest world players when it comes to custom software and they have the funds to put into the scientific research that means all other software builders and users get to take full advantage of.

The latest moves by Microsoft mean that custom software is being developed that will be able to recognise human speech and handwriting. This follows a decade of research and hard work. It will have huge implications for businesses and staff alike. Voice recognition software would vastly open up work opportunities for the less able-bodied employee and handwriting recognition would save written documents having to be re-programmed into computers. This will save immeasurable amounts of time for companies and time is money.

Much of the custom software developments are coming out of Beijing. Chinese talent in the arena of computer technologies is growing faster than any other country and Microsoft are tapping into this pool of knowledge with their Beijing branch that employs 350 researchers and has, to date, produced 260 innovative ideas that have brought in world-wide sales.

It is expected that the Beijing department will be responsible for developing custom software specifically for business-oriented products and also, hopefully, for software that will service the health care sector.
Normally relying on staff that have been trained by Western researchers, Microsoft now say that Chinese Universities are producing graduates of such a high quality that Western training is virtually no longer needed.

China are becoming famous for the level of teaching engineering, science and technology to children from a very young age and it seems that many of them are grasping the knowledge with open arms.

IT used to be considered the domain of the Western world but given the opportunity, it is possible for people the world over to be able to concentrate their efforts and research so that we can all benefit from custom software, whether it be the local business at the end of the road being able to source and supply your much needed products or your doctor having new treatments and drug research at his fingertips.

It’s good to see that research continues, that we are all able to gain something from it and it’s not just a way for big business to get ever bigger. A way of making life simpler, of better communication and better sharing of resources and research can only be a good thing.

Factors to Consider Before Purchasing a Card Printer

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Identity cards have become common place in daily life. We use them for gym membership, library cards, driving licences and employee id badges, to name a few. Most have been produced using a card printer. The old labour intensive method of cutting, pasting and laminating an identity card is fast becoming a thing of the past.

Using a digital card printer is a one step process. The information including text, graphics and pictures are all stored on a computer, enabling a replacement card to be easily re-printed.

There are several factors to consider before purchasing a card printer, and this article will deals with some of them.

Card printers will generally print a card of the standard and accepted dimensions. The standard is the CR-80 Card, which is 30 microns thick, or .75 millimetres, by 85.5 millimetres long and 54 millimetres wide with rounded corners. We have come to expect a plastic card to be this size, though different sizes can be accommodated for special purposes.

Card printers range from those suitable for high volume needs to the simpler card printers suitable for the occasional use. It is likely, however, that most people will be more interested in the latter.

As with paper document printers, card printers are capable of printing at different speeds. It will be especially useful to have fast speed capabilities if you need to print both sides of a card. Printers offering this are likely to be more expensive.

Card printers come in a variety of sizes. If you lack office space, then a printer with a small footprint that takes up minimum space will serve you best. Larger printers may also be noisier, and in a small enclosed office space this will be a factor to consider, especially if you will be doing regular printing.

Not everyone is an instant expert with modern technology. For this reason card printers that have a difficult operating learning curve should be avoided. The best card printers are those that anyone with minimal technical experience can get to grips with, in the minimum amount of time.

Remember that while an employee may be comfortable with operating a standard printer used for A4 documents, card printer can prove an unfamiliar challenge. Choose a printer that is simple to set up and is easy to use.

Card printers use a thermal digital printing process. There are two distinct types of thermal printing, depending on what you wish to achieve.

Mass transfer printing is most suitable for printing bar codes and machine-readable text. The print is usually only black and the quality can be somewhat variable. This method works well when precision is not a requirement.

The other thermal printing method is dye sublimation. This method is used in card printers to render photo-realistic images on cards in full colour. It can print very accurately and is increasingly the printing method of choice.

Other considerations when choosing card printers include using good quality stock plastic cards to achieve the best results. A specialist card printer retailer or manufacturer will be to advise you on this and help choose the best type of card printer for your particular requirements.

Zebra Card Printers are used every day in over 90 countries to produce more than 1.5 million identification cards. Learn more about Zebra’s full range of card printers and accessories at Zebracard.com.

Anti-Virus and Internet Security

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

With the last few years the internet has became not so safe to use because of facing the problems such as virus, worms, and Trojan horse. But by taking certain right security tools and a little knowledge about the problems we can tackle the problems and enjoy the internet as we can enjoyed. So, let s learn that how we can tackle the dangerous problems coming to the internet and we can enjoy the internet safely

Virus: Virus is the most dangerous as it spread through computer to the other computer and attaching to the host program of computer by affecting the computer hardware, software or other information. This can be tackle by installing a good Anti-virus before connecting to the internet. An anti-virus detect the virus and remove it from our computer. Always the anti-virus should be kept updated. You should be installed a good Anti-virus before connecting to the internet is the most safely thing to do to protect our computer and enjoy safe internet. You can double check your computer for virus infection by online virus scan, A AVG Anti-virus is also a better and free Anti-virus program. Another Avast Anti-virus is also a free good anti-virus program to protect our computer.

Worms: It is the subcategory of virus which affects the computer by spreading without the user action distributes itself to all over the network. Because of this the computer stop responding and allows somebody else to take control of your computer remotely. Eg: Sasser worm and Blaster worm. This types of worms generally spreads through email so never open a attachment directly from the unless it is scan by a good anti-virus program. By this only you can prevent from spreading the worms in your computer. It can scan by all the good Anti-virus program. But it is the better way that doesn t open the attachment from your email unless you are expecting it. Always keep the Windows updated by updating frequently or by turning on the Automatic update from the control panel.

Trojan Horse: Trojan Horses is spreads through generally when the people are opening a program by not knowing the coming source of program and also when downloading a software which is free. So, never download software from the source you don t know and not trust on it. Trojan Horses can make other to take control of your computer, steal your personal information such as passwords, and also make your computer to stop from working. Thus the Trojan Horses is different from the virus and worms because some Anti-virus cannot detect it. So, use a good Anti-virus program and keep it updated. Also, install the Internet Firewall to protect your computer.

Besides this, main threat to our computer is from Spyware. Spyware basically gathers the personal information from your computer unless you don t know. Spyware may cause to your computer to slow down. You can make away from your computer by buying a Anti-spyware program but it should also be free from Spyware. So the best way to keep our computer safe from the damages and secure our internet you should first prevent it by installing a good Anti-virus program and other suitable measures.

The Revolution of PC Satellite TV

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Technological innovations continue to amaze each one of us. Things, which were previously considered hard, are done with such ease these days. These technological revolutions have entered our homes as well and most of us make use of them in our daily lives. The experience of watching TV has undergone a sea change. The advent of PC Satellite TV is a very popular and upcoming feature. The term though, can confuse many alike.

When clicking any channel link in a PC Satellite TV player, it will quickly access, retrieve and air the channel in media files and into many smaller pieces so that you can watch them instantly without actually waiting for the entire download to take place. PC Satellite TV allows the users to watch thousands of channels from right across the globe.

The technology used for this purpose far surpasses the one used in our conventional TV appliances. It also has the ability to air both radio and TV channels simultaneously across a PC’s I.P address in high quality definition. They can also be safely used for accessing Internet TV because of two reasons. Firstly, Internet TV channels are owned by licensed media owners who offer them free of cost. Secondly, PC Satellite TV doesn’t convert the signals from air to our sets in a traditional way. To put it in another perspective, the PC Satellite TV software doesn’t tamper any signals or access any paid channels. They are in turn tapped from the World Wide Web.

Most PC Satellite TV software programs do not permit downloading of videos like movies. However, they are a great source of entertainment in other forms. They can beam on-demand, premium and HDTV movies. They can also air many software channels and much more. Software that does permit downloading facilities has however regained the popularity among its users. PC Satellite TV software doesn’t rely on special programs for its actions. It however, uses software like RealPlayer, Windows Media Player and Frameworks of Microsoft. The incorporated features in the software will ensure you will enjoy TV viewing even further. Greater quality of audio and video will keep you hooked to it. What’s more, you can take advantage of all these in a legal and secure environment.

The software is compatible with different operating systems like Macintosh, Windows and Linux. All you need to get going is a laptop/desktop with an Internet connection. Using a high-speed Internet connection will ensure better quality of video and audio programs. Users can avail the software services for a meager sum as compared to satellite or cable TV’s high monthly fees. Furthermore, entertainment is of highest order and an unlimited one. But by no means should this software be used for illegal viewing of movies and TV shows.

Safety Tips for Internet Shopping

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Shopping Online is more benefit than shopping at mall because we can buy by one click of mouse. And the internet is open for 24 hours for all seven days in a week. On internet you can buy anything such as Air tickets, booking a hotel, sending flowers to a friend, buying fashionable things you like and much more. But it is something different from finding the product on mall.

If you are shopping online from a retailer or from a website you always remember the following advice.

1.If you are buying some product or anything first you know from whom do you are buying because anybody can set up online store on the internet. At this case you should confirm the address and phone no. of the store or seller if you have some problem. If they are demanding your financial information through email than don t click on it because Legitimate companies don t ask such information through email.

2. Second thing you should know which product you are buying, you should read the description of the seller. Word s such as refurbished , vintage , and close-out means that the product will be less than the mint condition, otherwise the prices will be counterfeits when they say that the name-brand products is :too good to be true .

3. Third thing to do is to know about the price of the product, you can also do comparisons by finding it on the other website. See also the shipping charges and the delivery charges and calculate the total is in your budget or not. Never send cash online give it on the delivery of the product only. Paying by credit card or charge card is also a safe because it is protect by Fair Credit Billing Act Under this act you can withhold the payment when the creditor is doing investigation and also disputes the charges if you like.

4. Another important thing that the retailer or seller should provide a full description of the Terms and Conditions in a English format. You should read it carefully before clicking. If some of the retailer or seller takes your personal information than first the privacy policy of them and if you not satisfy than do not deal with them. Suppose you don t like that you purchase from the company you should see is there a company s refund or return policy or there is a process to lodge a complaint.

5. You should save all types of transactions you have done at the time of buying the product with the price and product description, online receipt you get, and copy all email you send or you receive. And also see your credit card statements that if they have take some unauthorized charges.

If you have been the victim of the fraud retailer or seller that you should first take all the information you have such as receipt, email sends, warranty, etc. Then call the retailer or seller and ask for the solution or if the problem is fixed then you can file a complaint against it to the attorney general of the state or in the consumer protection agency.

Are You At Risk Of A Data Loss Disaster

Monday, November 17th, 2008
by Mike White

One very common cause of lost data amongst computer users from all walks of life; being they home computer users, business users or even IT support technicians, is that which occurs following an issue with the machine that prevents it from booting. Data loss is often a side affect of attempts to get the machine working again.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if you have ever experienced a data loss in the past you will at least have at the very least a modicum of experience to guide you. But that said there are many signs of impending system failure so what symptoms should you be on your guard against?

Your computer appears to be starting normally but fails to present the log in window: Typically this can be put down to a number of different causes that could be either hardware or software centric. What this means is that it may be a mechanical problem such as a hard drive failing, or could be one of your drivers failing or a corrupt system file. Starting in safe mode may help but not always.

Operating System becomes slow: When it comes to a Microsoft Windows operating environment it is not unusual, over time for the OS to become cluttered with background processes that slowly grind the system to a near halt. In such cases it may be deemed that a full reinstallation of the OS is required in order that it reach a more useable state.

Pc virus, malware and spyware: Pc virus and other, malevolent applications can cause untold data loss and problems if not handled in the correct manner from the outset. Boot sector viruses and others will first start to be noticeable when you Pc starts behaving strangely so be on your guard.

So we come back to how we handle a problem when it arises. How do we prevent data loss when we inevitably have to reinstall our current operating system or upgrade to a new one?

The best way to avoid data loss in the first place is to follow a simple protocol. Backup your important data on a regular basis. There is simply no good excuse for not doing this as external drives and online backup centers are readily available to all.

So what options do you have to get your important or vital data back? If things seem really bad and saving the data is crucial, don’t take any risks and contact a data recovery specialist. They will have a whole host of solutions available to save your data and whilst it cannot be guaranteed, they do stand the best chance of success.

Increasing Information Flow For Individuals In Rural Regions Using Online Meeting Rooms

Monday, November 17th, 2008

While technology has inspired and touched almost every life on the planet in some way, for those who have learned to harness its power, it can present tremendous education and revenue generation opportunities.

One of the most innovative roles that technology can play in individuals, committees/groups and businesses is providing cost effective community and collaboration efforts in rural regions. Online meeting rooms have proven effective for flexible learning opportunities for individuals across the country and across the world.

Ag Excellence Alliance in conjunction with the YP Alkaline Soils Group held an agricultural conference at Stansbury in South Australia. There were approximately 100 guests in attendance at the event and I had been asked to attend and broadcast 2 of the sessions live through the online meeting room.

One of the presenters had come from Perth and the other from Canberra. The original intention was to have the Perth presenter speaking from his office in Perth, but he was visiting the region on another business matter and hence presented in person.

Speakers John Passioura of CSIRO presented - ‘Realities of breeding for drought’ and Bill Crabtree of Crabtree Agricultural Consulting presented ‘GMOs and weed control (chemical options), agronomy and time of sowing with reference to application in dry/drought conditions.’

The presentations were given to the audience using PowerPoint presentations, projected onto a large screen and the speakers utilizing a PA system to project their voices throughout the audience. I was utilizing my wireless connection as there was not local internet access in the presentation hall, to record and play the presentation through an online meeting room.

I was also using a wireless microphone that was attached to the presenters and plugged into my laptop which facilitated the audio of the speakers into the online room, ultimately allowing the listeners to hear the live presentation from the hall. Portable speakers were being used which allowed the online meeting room participants to listen to the entire presentation and the questions from the audience.

One of the other benefits of using the online meeting room for this presentation was that it was also recorded, allowing anyone who was not able to attend the session live or to listen in the online meeting room live, to listen at their convenience.

Using this online meeting format allowed numerous listeners to capture valuable information without the cost of traveling to the live presentation.

This online meeting room format also allowed the information to disseminate through a larger audience, inspiring growth and learning for rural Australians.

Personalize Your Computer And Make It Truly Your Own

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Personalization is not just for clothes, personalize your computer and your experience with the machine as well; all it needs is few clicks of the mouse! Yes, you can buy a pink laptop or you can buy a star wars cover for your computer in order to add a personal touch, but the sort of personalization that we are referring to are more in depth.

Imagine your favorite website being launched every time that you switch on your computer. Or your computer plays your favorite play list again and again if you request so! All these and much more are possible with your computer that will help you have a more personal experience while you work with it.

Specify the users that can access a particular computer. Each user will have their own login id and password to log in to the computer and have their own settings. You can have your dog’s photograph or your family’s photograph as wallpaper while another user for the same computer may have a photograph of Penelope Cruz on his wallpaper!

Personalize the display properties by specifying the color code for your windows, your word tools, the size of the font, the type of cursor and the resolution of your settings.

Specify the speed of your mouse or the details of your keyboard starting from regional keyboards to keyboards with Braille attachments and bigger buttons.

Assign sound to various activities performed on your computer. For example when there is a mail, you can assign a certain sound, when someone comes online you can assign sound to that as well. Set your play list with your media player and watch videos on your computer at a certain resolution and sound settings that best suit your viewing experience.

Enhance your computer by availing of different accessibility options for example special settings, microphones, audio enhancements etc.

Most modern laptops have retina identification and finger print identification options and will only allow those users whose information is stored in its database to operate the particular machine! The days of Charlie’s Angles right there on your desktop!

You can also personalize your programs by keeping shortcuts of the programs that you most frequently access on your desktop. That way you will not have to hit the “Start” button every time that you want to launch your Microsoft Word, for example.

You can access your internet and fix your dialing or broadband options as per your requirement. Use passwords and that will restrict the users from getting connected to the internet using your computer unless you want them to.

Today technology is at its best, helping the users make the most out of it. You can work at your own pace and in an environment that you are most comfortable with. Enjoy your computer experience by personalizing it keep it safe and sound and ensure your peace of mind. Safe and secure use of your machine will ensure a longer and fruitful association between the two of you.

How To Tell Your Manager You Need An Effective Anti Spam Solution

Monday, November 17th, 2008

So you get to the office, get your cup of coffee and sit down to start your day. You fire up your email software, and realize that 90% of the correspondence is spam that hasn’t been caught by the company anti spam filter. You spend the next 20 minutes going through it all making sure those one or two real messages don’t get thrown out with the rest of them. Your coffee is cold by the time you’re done, and you’re wondering what the plethora of credit reporting offers implies about your personality.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that dealing with e-mail spam takes up time; time that could definitely be spent more productively. And although most companies have some kind of spam filter in place, if it’s not on the cutting edge of anti-spam software, the spammers have found a way around the system. Many managers may not realize that they’ve let their software slide into expiration, or that they need to invest in a newer system altogether.

Letting the manager know that the company anti-spam software needs to be revamped can be as simple as a request. And sometimes it takes a few reminders. One way of reinforcing the request is to take the subject matter from all that spam, and turn it into a poetic plea.

Thousands of customers, meds online
Improved performance, for yours and mine
Oh, the temptation
And stubborn persuasion

Fine watches, all for cheap
Discounts on brands, no price too steep
All that distraction
For just a fraction

Here’s the best deal we’ll ever make
Improved performance for me, better results for you - have and eat that cake!
I swear it’s no scam
JUST GET RID OF ALL THAT SPAM!

Granted, creating these works of genius may in fact also be a waste of time (and kind of addictive), but it will likely get the point across.

Other effective hints might take even more effort, but drastic times call for drastic measures. Forwarding all the spam received in a day to the boss, and making them aware of how long it took you to sort through it all, sends a pretty aggressive, but un-ignorable message that this spam is getting in the way of the office’s daily work and productivity.

And if all that doesn’t work, well, then you could offer to make breakfast for the boss, and be sure to use as much Spam canned “meat” as possible on the menu. It is amazing how much not having to deal with reams of spam can improve everyone’s mood, which may be another point to make when submitting any of these gems for consideration.

There are ever improving anti-spam packages available out there these days, and they can be as simple or complex as your organization needs. Garbage e-mail is easy to deal with if you have a good spam filter; otherwise it’s robbing the company and employees of valuable time and resources. And who wants to start their day with male enhancement advertisements and cold coffee?

The Easy Way To Protect Your Computer From Spyware

Sunday, November 16th, 2008
by Jack Mason

If you have a computer that is connected to the internet, it’s essential that you use some type of anti-spyware program to protect your computer. One of the most common questions we receive is from people that are wondering what to look for when choosing the best spyware remover. With this in mind, we thought we would point out a few things to look for when searching for an anti-spyware program.

Why protect your computer from spyware? Because nowadays you just can’t risk not to. Not only can spyware drastically slow down your computer’s performance, but it can also put your personal information at risk of being stolen.

Here are some features that we recommend looking for in a spyware remover:

1) Ability to detect and destroy all forms of spyware

The term “spyware” consists of a lot of different types of infections. You have to look out for keyloggers, robots, browser hijackers, worms, dialers - There’s far too many to list here!

Obviously it isn’t your job to know exactly what all of these infections are, but it is the job of your anti-spyware program! You better be sure your spyware remover is aware of all the different infections that are out there.

Make sure to look for a program that is comprehensive and powerful enough to detect all of these malicious programs and wipe them off your computer.

2) Automatic spyware definition updates

New spyware hits the internet every day. If you spyware remover doesn’t know how to look for these new infections, your computer will never be fully protected.

It’s important that your spyware remover automatically updates itself with the new spyware definitions. This allows the program to protect your computer from any new spyware floating around the internet.

3) Automatic Complete Computer Scans

One of my faults is that I’m just plain forgetful!

You want an anti-spyware program that automatically scans your computer for infections on a pre-determined schedule (I have it scan my system once a week). This let’s you have the piece of mind that your computer is safe even if you forget to hit that “scan now” button.

4) Solid customer support

Although it’s extremely rare that you would ever need technical support for a spyware remover (they really just run themselves once installed), I want to know that there is support available just in case it’s ever needed.

I want to see that the company that makes the software stands behind the product and cares enough about their customers to offer prompt, efficient customer
